Management does not care about customers at all. They are concerned about how much time a rep spends on the phone with the customer. Part of the metrics is tracking how much time was spent with the customer helping them with their issue and if it is too high they will eventually let employees go for the time spent helping the customer. There really is not a lot of areas that you can get promoted into.
