Good Company, Bad Site (Worthing) - Production Engineer GSK Employee Review

Pros

The overall company is good and has a relatively competitive benefits package overall. Although all of my former colleagues that have left GSK over the past couple of years seem to have found themselves in better jobs... The company itself seems to care about the welfare of its employees. The work life balance is decent as well, although this can vary dramatically manager to manager.

Cons

Worthing specifically is one to avoid. The site has been on the decline for many years and is badly underfunded and under resourced now. The term flogging a dead horse comes to mind. As a result there seems to be a panic driven management style with priorities constantly changing on a whim. Management are very slow to make decisions and often flip flop on them after they do (a big one recently was making a large group of people redundant, only to beg them to stay a month later). They also preach a culture of transparency but this was FAR from the case, often with decisions made secretly and then a "show" put on to pretend it wasn't already decided. The site is badly hamstrung by the overly bureaucratic processes installed by the above site management teams. They enforce crazy standards that although fine at a blueship site, simply doesn't work at a site of this size and funding. It's likely because it will give them an excuse to close it eventually on the basis of "under performance".

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. All organizations experience change and GSK Worthing is no different. We have been transforming our business to be future-ready. While we have had some restructuring occurring, we are reacting to a fluctuating external environment that has created some further opportunities for our teams. We aim to be supportive and respectful to our employees throughout this time.
