Pros

I've worked with Galileo Learning for about 11 years now, as summer camp staff, a Camp Director, and now work in Headquarters as a Regional Director. Galileo has been the single most impactful work environment I've been a part of. What started as a summer job changed my career trajectory twice - inspiring me to become a teacher, then to work with Galileo full time. The magical thing about this company is the way it embodies the mission & mindset that it teaches to kids. Being collaborative, reflective, visionary, determined, and courageous means something to each person that is part of the community. The people at all levels - staff, Camp Directors, Headquarters - are phenomenal, and are encouraged to contribute their unique selves to the organization. It is so powerful to be a part of a company that changes lives.

Cons

Working in education can be difficult at times. Galileo has more resources and support than the public school system I worked for, but tends to have some of the same stressors, especially in the last few years. Working with families / campers requires patience, empathy, and creativity. Staffing in a pandemic requires a lot of problem solving. As you can imagine, those of us on the field team are always trying to find a work / life balance in the summer months when camps are running. That being said, even in a pandemic this work has never been as unsustainable as being a public school teacher was for me.
