Pros

- Smart people who truly care about co-workers and their clients. - Jobs are plentiful in Omaha and pay is decent for the area. - Time allotted to develop people and team build. Local teams are truly teams

Cons

- Lack of upward mobility. Gallup puts you in a box that you cannot move from. Managers are not promoted based on true talent in managing people, but for being "Yes" men and women. - Benefits and pay are sub-standard. Cannot compete with top tier consulting firms and offer 1/2 the pay and benefits. - Work/Life balance doesn't exist. Flexible vacation, but drives the wrong behavior. Toxic environment where "she took a WHOLE WEEK off" is a major red mark against a person. - Have lost the view on driving true customer engagement and value. More focused on revenue and targets versus delivering value in terms of company grown/revenue etc. - Family owned & run...destined to fail. Too much nepotism in leadership and throughout company.

Gallup Response

Thank you for taking the time write about the 5+ years you spent with Gallup. Our goal with every person we hire and employ is for them to have an exceptional experience with their clients, manager, and co workers while developing in a strengths based environment. However, we admittedly aren't the right place to work for everyone. I would like to address two points from your review, so our readers can "see both sides" and draw their own conclusions. First, the most surprising learning for me here, is that there apparently was not clarity and alignment between Gallup and you in your hiring process in the area we are perhaps most well known for-Strengths Based Development. Specifically, what it means to work in a strengths based culture where promotions and growth are managed VERY differently than in traditional non-strengths environments. We believe this is one of several competitive advantages we have as an employer and contributes greatly to keeping our global turnover beneath 12% year over year. Second, I would like to make a point and state a few facts about benefits and compensation levels compared to "Top Tier" consulting firms. Our top performers are more than competitive with other firms, and of course low performers wouldn't compare with top performers at other firms. We continue to successfully recruit and employ consultants from "Top Tier" firms, which gives us a different perspective than you are reporting. Best of luck in the future. --Matt

Pros

Managers are outstanding. They truly respect and care about their employees. They make you feel comfortable sharing your opinions. They empower you to take action. The culture is fantastic. Fellow employees are wonderful to work with. Everyone takes their role seriously. You feel part of a village and want to contribute. You get to do what you do best! The mission and purpose make this feel not so much like a job, more like a way of life.

Cons

As is true for many companies, there are a lot of changes needed to be competitive in this current environment. Working through the changes can be bumpy at times. It is worth it to voice concerns and be part of the solution.

Pros

1. Genuine intellectual autonomy with real institutional backing behind you 2, A research heritage spanning nearly a century that raises the bar on everything you produce. I've worked with Nobel Laureates and many other top minds. 3. The nicest smart people I've encountered anywhere, drawn from all over the world; and that's held true across nearly 30 years 4. Treated like a responsible adult from day one; lots of autonomy and a remarkable breadth of data and research to work with 5. A place where your individuality is an asset, not something to sand down

Cons

1. If you are a person who needs someone else to structure your day and hand you a to-do list, you may struggle; the autonomy is real, and so are the expectations that come with it 2. The pace and intellectual standards can be demanding; this is not a coast-and-collect-a-paycheck environment
