Pros
Get to work with a good bunch of people not just in Geek Squad, but all of Best Buy. Most are young, but even the older emplyees are good natured and fun to hang out with out of the store. Higher than normal pay considering it still being a retail position. Looks good on resumes for anyone looking to break into the IT world. If you can't get into Apple than this is a good lateral move. Employees move back and forth between Apple and Geek Squad more than you'd think. Learn quite a few tricks to fix OS X and Windows issues. If you want to know about computers, ask to do a stretch goal with an ARA. We love to teach others of what we do. 'At Cost' benefit is pretty nice to buy things in the store. Speakers, cables, brackets, and a few others get huge discounts. The accommodations you get from LG, Sony, Samsung, and other companies are pretty legit too.
Cons
Hours can be a crap-shoot. At a busy store, a part-timer can easily get 32 or more hours a week, but if you're at a slow store don't expect to get anywhere near that. Management has their own SOP that doesn't align with the company's SOP (IE being told to do something that is a Terminable offence, not following safety regulations, ignoring new rules that come down from corporate) Management doesn't listen to employees. It can get bad enough that disagreement is seen as "not respecting authority" rather than good points or concerns being discussed civilly. Upward mobility very difficult. You need to either be objectively good, useful, or make friends with those with power to get anywhere. Getting into in-home or Auto-Bay is where good money is, but those positions don't free up often.
