Pros

There's a great sense of fellowship with other technicians you work with, and you learn a lot from each other. You do get some sense of accomplishment when you help a nice customer who is happy with the work, and the job does provide you with a stepping stone to a better tech job. If you have nice managers, the workload and overall environment is decent.

Cons

Geek Squad is owned by Best Buy, and is managed by Best Buy managers. Best Buy managers are not computer technicians, half of them don't even know what the computer techs are even doing half the time. Best Buy managers are salespeople, and thus the computer technician job is actually more of a sales job where you try and sell as much services as possible to hit predefined numbers. So, Geek Squad isn't really a support function where it only deals with supporting and repairing computers, it's actually held accountable as a profit-generating entity. This is unrealistic being that you aren't in control of how many computers break/are brought into Best Buy for repair or how well the regular Best Buy salespeople are selling Geek Squad services. Best Buy also rolled out service plans that cover many computers as a shortcut to generating revenue, but as a result you'll see almost all of the customers you get at Geek Squad have some type of coverage that eliminates the ability to sell them anything more. It can lead to hours being depleted even at a full time level and a lot of unneccessary stress. Although the pay is great compared to other lowly retail positions, it is petty compared to what comparable techs do in different positions with other companies.
