Pros

Tremendous growth opportunity for tech field Higher wages for a retail position The culture is quirky and fun Job is fun and engaging, lots of practical skills to learn and apply Both your store's coworkers and clients respect your brand If you are looking to break in to IT and do not currently have formal education, Geek Squad is the fastest method. The company itself also offers some upward movement, though it is very competitive. IT recruiters like to see Geek Squad on your resume.

Cons

Shrinking culture. Best Buy is slowly swallowing Geek Squad. Defined positions continue to disappear and get replaced by general do-all positions, which also happens to pay less. There's been an overall company restructure on how bonuses work, and now it is more difficult to bonus than before. Our team's monthly and quarterly bonuses have shrank by more than half since this restructure. There is an increasing number of duties each year, with agents being expected to be more knowledgeable and perform a larger variety of tasks without any compensation. The company's pay is not competitive with other entry level tech jobs. There was a fairly large exit from senior employees this year due to service expansion requiring additional work and certifications without a pay increase.
