Pros

Wonderful co-workers, teaching hospital with many wonderful clinicians, beautiful and safe rural community with people from all over the world drawn by the hospital, great team work. On my unit, schedulers try very hard to accommodate individual scheduling preferences and requests.

Cons

Individuals feel expendable but management is slow to approve and hire replacements, which means either short-staffed shifts or lots of "voluntary" overtime. Sometimes an extra monetary incentive is in place to compensate nurses for staying an extra 4 or 8 hours, taking extra shifts, or coming in 4 hours early, but this incentive is not always available on all units--it comes and goes on mine.

Pros

Worked fully remote which worked for me. Great health benefits. Worked for health plan not clinical.

Cons

Limited opportunities for growth without a college degree. Typical corporate where they cut resources and make big demands. Many long time employees which I thought was a pro at first, but realized they are stuck in old ways and don’t really want to hear a fresh new perspective or even spend time developing new people. As someone with ambition and interest in contributing, I felt stuck, limited, and bored.
