Outward Brand Doesn't Match Internal Reality - Sales General Assembly Employee Review

They've made a big push on promoting all of their diversity and inclusion awards/recognition recently, and were recently recognized by LinkedIn by having the most internal promotions for any startup. This is the external spin. The internal reality is that the diversity level of the team is really dropped over time, which is really unfortunate. Other reviews mention this as well, but as the old guard at GA has left and they've brought in new leadership, and each new leadership hire is consistently whiter and more male. There is a noticeable trend of women, minority, and LGBT leaders exiting the business over time. GA started as a hyper inclusive and diverse community, but the tech/consulting bro culture has officially arrived as of late in the push for profitability and to get an exit for all the investors. This change in the composition of senior leadership has been reflected in the broader ranks. Couple this with a hyper preferential and political approach to promotion, and it creates an internal environment where the people/talent centric outward brand doesn't match the internal actions/values. Additionally, the big reason why they promote so much internally is because turnover rate is insane. GA is a great and special place to work for many reasons, but the mismatch between their people centric brand externally and internal actions is really stark.
