Well intentioned, disorganized chaos - Career Coach General Assembly Employee Review

Pros

Easy to feel motivated by the organization's mission - to radically shift the classroom-to-career pipeline and create additional on-ramps to professional opportunities.

Cons

Knowledge management is a huge concern - there are multiple central sources of truth across their global campuses. No playbook or blue print for how to ramp up to the organization and your role within. Onboarding is ripe for redesign - all learning is self-directed and there are no learning objectives or milestones. Managing lines aren't clear, and it can be challening to report to different managers in different functions. I wasn't entirely sure to whom, and to what goals, I was primarily accountable. The team on the ground felt palpably stressed, and student experience was paramount, but tough to manage. Very much a "build the plane while flying it" type introduction to the organization, which feels like setting up employees and the firm's brand to fail.

Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn and build experience with Fortune 500 and 1000 client projects, can offer flexibility since the work is 100% remote and contracts are on a per-project basis. Can be great for career growth if you're motivated to work hard and hustle

Cons

People are spread very thin on lots of projects, timelines can be very rushed and high-pressure. This can be a result of client pressure, but also frequently comes from internal issues with communication and poorly defined scope of work.
