Pros

I was on one of the design teams. My supervisor had strong technical knowledge and was motivational. The work load was realistic and the challenges were entertaining. Benefits were very competitive. I felt they treated me well and the work was not too stressful. It looked to me my coworkers in the department with similar respect. I learned a lot! Most designers had a strong understanding of the fundamentals, and I aimed to be a valuable contributor as well. I praise my supervisor and the staff engineer who was supporting me, and my coworkers were wonderful as well. This company is not just one to tell you "Do the right thing!" They'll actually do it. Wow! There were several instances where I saw this to be very true and I was very impressed.

Cons

My reason for leaving was personal, but the pay was relatively low and there were some slow days. The department was growing and they were fitting a lot of people (2-3 people) into small cubicle sections. There was almost no software to validate your hand-calculations or if the work became too iterative or tedious to sensibly do by hand. Almost everything was done into spreadsheets and if someone else had previously done the work it was difficult to get those spreadsheets; to verify they had done it correctly or understand what assumptions they had made. This no doubt strengthens the fundamentals although you could only go so far. Electrical engineers do not get to do their own layout, and layout people have very different hours too. My particular department did not allow headphones, which I did not like.

Pros

Managers are very supportive and foster growth while challenging you. Semi flexible schedule - can come in early or stay late to meet required hours. Decent pay, tuition reimbursement, 401k matching, Mentorship opportunities

Cons

Leadership tends to get ahead of themselves with potential large contracts. Begin to invest a lot of time and money prior to contracts being awarded. Could be more clear on company goals and mission. Limited salary increase when changing roles.
