Pros
- Good place to gain entry level experience. - A lot of opportunities to move within the company / expand your experience. - Excellent job security and future business outlook
Cons
- Highly "silo'd"/compartmentalized departments. Work and responsibilities are often handed off to other departments with little knowledge of the product. Leads to excessive re-work. - Rather than motivating/disciplining employees, supervision will transfer employees between departments. The resulting work-load becomes the responsibility of the people who put in effort. - If you work in the shipyard (production side of the business) schedules change drastically and often. Employees are often asked to "remain flexible" and support projects at a moment's notice on weekends/holidays/back-shifts. - "Mandatory overtime" is often enforced on a department or directorate wide basis, without regard to individual workloads. - Overtime was one of the best benefits of the job. Company has been slowly reducing / removing overtime (applies to salaried positions).
