Pros
Job security is strong, there seems to never be layoffs. Pay is decent. Nice to watch submarines come in or leave from the NL side. There is a cafeteria in NL that serves breakfast and lunch (of course it would never be free). Most co-workers are friendly.
Cons
Desk job all day long. Too much paperwork to do. For new engineers, the work is very slow and boring. The work is not challenging. You could do this job out of high school with some interest in technology, math seems to be a rare thing to do. Attrition rate is bad, but higher ups don't seem to do anything to fix this. Mentors are labeled as mentors, even though a lot of them wont help you or are too busy to help out. Serious lack of training for new engineers. Sometimes you get thrown out to the wolves with no or little guidance on how to accomplish your tasks. New England is a very expensive place to live and your paycheck will diminish quickly. Seriously, the parking is worse than you can imagine. If you don't show up before 6:15am in NL then you have to park outside of the parking garage. Have fun walking 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile into and out of work each day. Moving up in the company seems to only happen if there is a need for a position rather than an individuals performance. There are no bonus'. They tell you not to watch the clock, but you have to because your work is not very engaging. PTO is good for new guys, but is terrible for anyone with more than 10 years experience.
