Pros
1) A fair degree of flexibility 2) Your coworkers are extremely nice and pleasant people (with a few notable exceptions) 3) Laid back environment in most departments 4) Compensation is fair to below fair depending on who you are and what you're doing 5) A lot of time off (see cons) 6) Tuition reimbursement is nice if you want a degree 7) Project deadlines are usually very soft. People recognize that you are busy and it's not your incompetence holding things up 8) Leadership committed to annual increases and has held true to that promise (after years of no increases) *see cons
Cons
1) Little to no opportunities for advancement 2) Employees are laid off or leave and work expectations never decrease 3) Continuing education does not exist, unless you take it on yourself 4) Workplace inbreeding where under qualified students are hired well before or just after graduation. This limits innovation/new ideas and promotes a cycle of poor business practices. 5) Over dependence on student workers. They often replace part time positions, rather than support or augment those positions 6) Very poor response from outside candidates for open positions (I'm a manager who has seen this firsthand) 7) Job descriptions and expectations are out of control, especially considering the salary for some positions 8) Time off feels hard to take because of low staffing and high expectations 9) Summer 2021, 6 high level leaders left the organization (4 directors and 2 VPs) 10) Highest levels of management have an perceived lack of empathy by employees 11) President seems to be running the show. Input from VPs seems ignored. Some VPs seem like yes men. 12) Budgets are disproportionally small compared to expectations. 13) Nepotism thrives. There are policies against it, but having the same last name as a current employee holds a lot of weight. Relatives have had a functional manager/employee role. This was technically avoided by assigning a different supervisor, even though the employee worked directly in their relative's area. 14) Increases are minimal. I have never gotten more than 2% and have not talked to anyone who has received any more than that
