Pros

At its core, the college has a great culture of learning. The school's small size and devoted faculty mean you have a lot of people who are working there because they want to teach, not just do research. On the ground level, employees generally care about each other no matter what department you're in. Vacation benefits for full- and part-time employees are also quite generous. The college has some excellent programs, and there is still a lot of deserved pride for the quality of the academics.

Cons

Compensation is low, even with the HR department's efforts to raise base wages across the boards. Employees haven't had a raise in years. That's probably not going to change any time soon, despite the same blandly hopeful statements the administration issues every year. So if you enter as an entry level employee, you'll probably be making the same five years later despite your abilities or efforts. Some of the departments are also incredibly demanding of their employees time, especially considering the offered wages. Micro-management seems to be a universal trait for directors in the staff side, and supervisors often expect you to promptly respond to emails or calls during non-works hours or weekends, despite constantly reinforcing the idea that the higher-ups value a work/life balance. For a Christian workplace, there's also a surprising amount of "worldly" things that happen as well: bickering, in-fighting, slander, and the like. Leaders gossip frequently, bad-mouth people who don't see eye to eye with them, and say uncharitable things behind employees' backs. There's a surprisingly low employee attendance for the weekly chapel time, which has historically been one of the key interactions of this sort for ALL of the campus--a time for students and employees to be together for a common purpose. Now, it's a time to schedule webinars.
