Pros
Tuition benefits are an extremely good reason to work for George Washington University. If you are a student, another great benefit is the connection to the staff who may be able to help you out at some point during your student career. Overall, the university is making strides to improve its HR and employee communication although they still have a long way to go. Depending on the department you work for, you may receive better or worse treatment, as the university is very departmentalized and inconsistent in employee experiences. I enjoyed my time at GW, but I would assess the specific environment and department you're signing up for very closely before making any decisions.
Cons
Of course, the bureaucracy is the worst part about George Washington University. There are so many communication chains and levels of management that it's even hard to navigate as an employee. Also, it's very had to figure out how much the university values its employees because so much attention is given to the top of the senior staff, the wealthy benefactors, their "special cases," and burgeoning student issues. However, this is common on just about any campus, so you can't be surprised there. Depending on the department, advancement may be determined on friendship rather than job performance, but that's an easy one to manipulate.
