Pros
Tuition Benefits, academic environment, loads of events on campus, great office location.
Cons
Bureaucracy, monotonous working environment, decentralized management structure. Each department is very different, separate budget, different pay scale, etc. High turnover. Frivolous spending, lack of oversight. If individuals are not good managers, will still be giving management authority, with no oversight this is a dangerous model. Work/Life balance, and regognition and feedback all varies by individual department. If you do come to work for GWU I would recommend working in an academic department that interests you, this will ensure that your conversing about interesting topics! Each department is different though so I can only speak on my experience. GWU is a very slow to change organization with high turnover, and lack of cohesive momentum. No wonder it is right next door to the federal government! Bureaucracy in both institutions is prevalent!
