Business Outlook
Pros
I had an on-campus job for most of college. I worked in both FWS and non-FWS roles and always had good experiences with my supervisors/bosses understanding that we are students first but still providing opportunities for professional development. The folks at the Writing Center are particularly kind and welcoming and make great effort to support staff.
Cons
No pay for training. Becoming a writing consultant in the university writing center requires you take a semester long preparation course, part of which involves leading your own appointments--none of which you are paid for. I can't think of another job where you don't get paid for training like this.
