Pros
The students and faculty are wonderful, and in general I think people are committed to their work (certainly they are not doing it for the money!) Most people are pleasant to work with, and overall it is a friendly place and less pretentious than I expected. There are an endless stream of activities that staff can usually attend, so many it's really overwhelming. Good benefits.
Cons
The pay is too low for DC and raises have been pitiful in recent years. There is no cost-of-living raise, even though the university seems to have no problem affording new programs or new buildings. I know sometimes projects are simply earmarked this way, but it's pretty obvious that keeping a good staff is a low priority. There are a lot of settled long-timers, but turnover tends to be high for younger staff. It is quite difficult to physically get to as well, and expensive to live nearby.
