Little to no opportunities to advance as a staffer. Non-competitive, below-market salaries for staffers (business managers, IT, secretarial/clerical, facilities). The university president, some faculty, and senior to mid-level administrators have received raises and/or promotions in recent years, while staffers' salaries have been frozen. Staffers pay the financial brunt of the university appearing 'fiscally responsible' to the State of Georgia by enduring no cost of living raises or being simply laid off. Questionable ethics, bad 'attitudes', and bureaucratic laziness are not hard to find at GSU. If you're looking to be a team player, look elsewhere. Don't believe the hype about free tuition for employees. As an employee, you get last dibs on class offerings after all regular students have registered. Sure, you can get that B.S. in History, but it's going to take you a long, long time to complete. The more marketable the major (i.e. business, IT, law), the harder to get into those classes, since you have to register last. A lot of 'premium' classes (for professions like law, IT, and business) are simply not eligible for free tuition.
