Pros

-Quarterly Raises -Large amount of cash rewards and incentives -Flexible Schedule -Paid Vacation and Personal days -Medical benefits for part time workers -10 percent discount on store brand products -Holiday pay -Christmas Day, New Years and New Years Eve the store usually closes early or is closed all together.

Cons

Working for Giant Eagle is not bad, it is the environment. A large number of people that come in are very hard to deal with. I work at a store in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. We are constantly having to arrest shoplifters, stop arguments between customers over nothing, and every week there's a new scam that we have to be made aware of. There is an extremely high turnover rate and because of this the front end workers that actually come to work have to work very hard to get customers in and out. During the busiest part of the day they only schedule 2 cashiers to work. This is just unacceptable during the first of the month when many welfare recipients receive their monthly allowance and rush the store at once. Management is not involved at all except when it comes to arranging displays around the store for weekly promotions. When they do get involved, they tend to focus on the wrong things like the windows being cleaned every 2 weeks instead of once every month. If you are good at working with the general public, then this is the job for you. -You spend Holidays slaving away to make sure customers get home to their families while you leave work so exhausted that you can't enjoy your own.

Pros

Generally a good group of people. Work itself isn't terribly hard. Insurance is nice however, the pay is poverty wages,

Cons

Pay is called "competitive" It's competitive in the sense they pay dollars less than their competitors. You will be working solo mostly. There is zero payoff for doing a good job. Raises exist once a year set by union. These raises do not keep up with inflation. ALL PRODUCTS ARE 15-30% more expensive than other stores. Almost no one can afford to shop here that works here. If they do shop here they are paying between 50 cents to dollars more per item. The store is literally ripping off customers and workers. Work is do'able and can be completed if you bust your butt for a bit. The pay off? None. There's no raise, no bonus, they don't remember it for future raises. Working full time and getting between 370 and 500 a week is not livable. They talk about community helping which they do however its the cheapest way to pretend to care vs paying people who work there in the community more so there would be LESS people in need, No sense of purpose.
