Pros

If your a manager with the following qualifications you will enjoy working here: - Like to steal other employees projects and take full credit. - Have no management experience or education. - Have the ability to avoid answering employee questions and concerns by constantly changing the subject, even if the new subject is about something you know nothing about. - Like to make your employees jobs harder by placing road blocks in their way or by removing the resources they have to do the job. - Like to micro-manage tasks given to well educated and experienced employees, even though you have never performed these tasks. - Have the ability to base merit increases on interpersonal friendships and not on performance without feeling bad about it. - Like to treat employees differently and unequally based on your personal like or dislike of the employee. - Enjoy a challenge, have a desire to inspire employees to do their best, want to help employee meet their career goals, and don't mind a short career here because the other managers will dislike you and your job will be miserable. If you are an Engineer with the following qualifications you will also enjoy working here: - Dislikes going into the fab for any reason - Have the ability to hide all day from management, so you can avoid being yelled at or asked questions that have nothing to do with anything relevant. Hint, the fab is a good place to hid. - Have no experience in the industry and have no desire to learn about the equipment or process you work on. - Like to pass work on to maintenance technicians because they are the only ones in the fab, then take all the credit. - Have the ability to ignore the advice of maintenance and process technicians with years and years of experience at other successful Fabs, even though you have no industry experience and have had no desire to learn your equipment or process. - Believe that little fairies live inside your equipment that create process issues. - Can create extremely long troubleshooting plans that take 3-4 days and have nothing to do with the problem so that your manager thinks you are busy and wont yell at you. Maybe the fairies will leave after 3-4 days and really its the maintenance and process technicians doing all the work leaving you time to find new places to hide. - If you are a skilled equipment or process engineer and have a good understanding of what it takes to support a healthy fab, willing to work hard to resolve process issues and learn your equipment, have the ability to implement sensible procedure and documentation, and don't mind being constantly shot down or frowned upon when you are actually working hard to improve the areas you work in or present good ideas. You must also be able to swallow your pride and hold your tongue when being yelled at and put down by your manager in meetings. If you are a process technician with the following qualifications you will enjoy working here: - Doesn't like to spend time in the fab. - Have the ability to build a personal friendship with your manager for the purpose of merit increases, which you will have plenty of time to do while sitting outside the fab next to your manager and other process technicians. - Believe that in order to do your job you need to be close to the equipment in the fab, not sitting next to your manager all day, and do not mind getting a poor review and no merit increases because you were in the fab. - Have no experience, no degree, and are a mindless robot that will not make suggestions or try to provide recommendations to the process engineers or managers. --Believe you can find the fairies. If you are a maintenance technician with the following qualifications, this place is for you: - Enjoy being the only people in the fab doing any work. - Don't mind not being able to do your job because everything you need to do it has been taken away or was never there to begin with. - Don't mind being micro-managed by non-technical managers while they sit outside of the fab or leave work when ever they feel like. - Your only relevant work experience is your car or computer hobby, technical degree not required. - Don't believe in Ohm's law because your a rebel and you don't need laws. - Believe that you can take an electrical shock from 208V/40amps like it was nothing because you are superhuman. This is a necessary skill since finding OSHA approved lockout equipment in the fab is like trying to find fairies in your equipment, it could take 3-4 days. - Not concerned with merit increases, since you will be in the fab all day and wont have the time to become best friends with your manager. -Like to be over worked, under appreciated, and treated like second class people. If you are an HR specialist you will enjoy working here if you have the following qualifications: - Enjoy diminishing employee moral by implementing systems that prevent merit increases. - Have the ability to implement policies that are demeaning to well educated hourly employees, like making them clock out for lunch rather then building a system that automatically deducts 30 minutes for lunch. Why show any of these lower class workers any trust. - You are willing to post fake comments on Glassdoor hoping that people will actually believe that this place isn't really as bad as people say it is.

Cons

Work Culture- Many good employees are leaving this place out of frustration. Anyone who tries to work on fixing things or knows what they are doing are ostracized. It is unfortunate that the only people that stay here are the ones that are making it an awful place to work. There is a culture here that puts down employees for trying to improve work conditions or trying to improve the systems that are in place. Maybe its because the people who drive this culture are afraid that those who do know what they are doing will be more successful them them. After more then two years of employment I still see the same problems we had when I got hired, in fact many things have gotten worse. Management- There are so many layers of management that the people in the upper tier are very disconnected from the fab. They are more concerned with managing how the company is seen by the public rather then fixing things so that the company is known for what it can do. If they would fix the fab, fab support, fab systems, and work on making quality products, then they wouldn't have to lie to the public. Intel and Samsung didn't get their reputations by trying to convince the world that they are good at what they do, they got their reputations by being good at what they do. Employee recognition and incentives- There is a class system at work here that places the people that work inside of the fab at the bottom of the system. Most companies realize that it is the people in the fab that are the heart of the company, after all this is where everything is made in a wafer fab. At GF the fab employees are regarded as disposable and are treated as if they are unskilled and uneducated workers. Managers receive a very large bonus incentive while the people who work in the fab receive very little. Beyond that the bonuses that have been given out in the last two years have not been what they promised employees when they were hired. In two years I have received less then a total of 2% increase in pay even though I was not ranked poorly on either of my yearly reviews. This is a company of managers for managers. There are managers looking for ways to hire more managers! Many areas in the fab are short on technical staff and more of the technical staff is leaving. Even though they are hiring new technical staff, they place employees that have experience in one functional area of the fab in an areas they have no experience, its like they stand around an throw darts to decide who goes where when new people are hired.

Pros

Very supportive team and management to work with from the beginning. Many training classes need to be taken in moving forward to align with the company policies and technical procedures. Good benefits and competitive salary. Have a very positive plan for long term career and educational support tuition. The interview and hiring process are long but informative and responded promptly.

Cons

There are many training classes to take so it may put more stress on a new hire if you do not have a good plan.

Pros

Everyone is willing to help and the training is actually good training

Cons

If I didn’t know someone that worked since I was going to overnights I didn’t really meet anyone on my team except my manager once. Also I wouldn’t know who to reach out like manger wise if I didn’t know someone who already worked here
