Pros
Flight benefits if you ever have time and energy to travel. Working alone gives you a lot of freedom and independence. The 550 is a more spacious plane for it only being 50 seats.
Cons
Pay is unbearable for the amount of work and time you put into the job. The training was subpar, so once you got on the line you don't really feel prepared to be by yourself, especially service wise. You'll also stay at the nastiest (bedbugs) "hotel" during training, where sketchy people stay to have a low cost roof over their heads, . You'll question your health and safety there every day. Being the only flight attendant has its benefits, especially since some of the people they hire are very questionable. I couldn't imagine working along some of the people I trained with. My classmates were so disrespectful and rude, there was a different quarrel every week so our training got postponed several times because we had to be yelled at from our instructor several times. And repeat offenders were not kicked out of the program to many peoples disbelief. The planes are getting really beat up and something seems to be wrong with them every flight. there's always something new. The carry on cabinets are only a pro for pax, for you it just means you have to wrestle with dirty luggage weighing 50 pounds by yourself to make everything fit. Flying Routes are really not that fun, so if you're looking to go to "nice" places with long/fun layovers this isn't for you. having a beer at a dingy bar while pilots talk shop or uncomfortably flirt with you isn't my idea of "fun". Flights are normally under an hour but just long enough to where you are expected to do a full beverage service, You have to get good quick but they don't even train you on how to cater in class or manage your time.... I got to chose my base, however ORD is losing a lot of flying so I barley worked for a whole year and all the sudden they start deadheading you to where the flying is and u feel like you never have a second to breath. two days off before your next trip is never enough. Scheduling lacks respect and forgets to schedule you a hotel at night, and is disrespectful towards you when you're upset that you've been on your feet for 14 hours with no where to rest. Senior flight attendants are not very welcoming to new, younger flight attendants. Probably because they expect them to leave within a year anyway. Working as a single FA on the aircraft is really hard when you have a delay, emergency, unruly passengers. You must have thick skin. Some pilots are super flirty and being alone with only one other pilot gets uncomfortable sometimes. not every hotel for layovers are nice or accommodating. walls are super paper thin.
