Pros

It was a bridge to better things. I met some really great people, and had the chance to work on some interesting projects, though far from cutting edge.

Cons

HR all about the company, seriously all about the company. Employee engagement is an exercise in futility. Expecting HR to help with any real concerns will leave you wanting and frustrated. Management is distrustful of staff, and there is zero tolerance for mistakes. It's an environment of CYA for fear of retribution. Lower management has all the accountability and zero authority, just an endless chain of managers hung out to dry for anything that makes upper management feel they look bad to peers. Upper management is more about boosting ego and feeling superior than about taking care of staff. There are a few bright spots on the team, but they are smothered by a general lack of true leadership among their peers. Pay is below market, environment toxic at best. Technology is dated and constrained by a fear of failing towards progress.

Pros

The pay is decent and there are some very skilled people working in the department.

Cons

The workloads are unrealistic at times particularly when someone is out of office for an extended period of time. Month end tends to be very busy and you will be expected to work additional hours most days if you are salaried. Management attitude shifted in the last few years. Performance expectations are very subjected and higher ratings are gated across the organization with the highest level being essentially out of reach for non leadership positions. Many talented people have recently left the department in a short period of time causing workloads to be redistributed rather than seeking new staff in a timely manner. A large number of key department processes sit with a single person with minimal at best documentation of their procedures. You may be expected to reverse engineer some of the annual or quarterly processes with minimal guidance after seeing the process one once or twice.
