Not a place for Analytics - Senior Credit Risk Analyst Golden 1 Credit Union Employee Review

Pros

Water bottles, merchandise, and other pleasantries

Cons

Golden 1 is an organization run by leadership that is culturally incapable of listening. As an analyst, I understand that the purpose of analytics at Golden 1 is to support decisions that have already been made. Leaders have no real interest in analytics, and it shows. When I expressly laid out exactly why Golden 1 was about to lose all of their top analysts due to the return to office, it fell on deaf ears. It fell on deaf ears when Dustin was told that my mother was dying of cancer and I needed to work from home to support her. It fell on deaf ears whenever we raised issues on how horrifically mispriced our auto portfolio is. Leadership did not even alert credit risk to the plans of contracting with a third party to remake underwriting policy. That is how little concern for analytics they have. The criteria for success at Golden 1 is loyalty, not excellence. Golden 1 will continuously fail at building analytics in the org, and when they find themselves stuck with a data warehouse that they have spent millions of dollars on with nobody around to understand or use it, they will point fingers at IT and the analytics groups wondering why. For my part, myself and my team did everything in our power to tear down road blocks and build an analytics community at Golden 1. It was a wasted effort. If you want to make the median salary for your role, never think of work outside of work hours, and do sub-standard work until you retire, Golden 1 is your company. Otherwise, if you are an analyst, steer clear.

Pros

The pay is decent and there are some very skilled people working in the department.

Cons

The workloads are unrealistic at times particularly when someone is out of office for an extended period of time. Month end tends to be very busy and you will be expected to work additional hours most days if you are salaried. Management attitude shifted in the last few years. Performance expectations are very subjected and higher ratings are gated across the organization with the highest level being essentially out of reach for non leadership positions. Many talented people have recently left the department in a short period of time causing workloads to be redistributed rather than seeking new staff in a timely manner. A large number of key department processes sit with a single person with minimal at best documentation of their procedures. You may be expected to reverse engineer some of the annual or quarterly processes with minimal guidance after seeing the process one once or twice.
