Pros

-Some very good people that are friendly, warm, and intelligent. -Good product market fit. People who use the tool love it. Being able to use Gong at Gong was a great asset for my career. -The name has enough recognition and clout that it looks good on your resume. -Pay was fair and good for my role level and location. Wish that they had 401k matching.

Cons

-Culture is extremely inauthentic and phony. You must drink the kool-aide to fit in. Operating principles are a sham. -Select leaders who are ruthless, clueless, and downright abusive to their direct reports and other teams. I had first hand experience and knowledge from others with regards to leaders being emotionally and psychologically abusive towards their team or others in the business. Gong seems to attract and protect bullies. -Extreme micro-management, but lack of clear communication about expectations + impossibly high standards. I was working 14-16 hour days for nearly 7 months straight yet nothing I did was ever good enough. Very quick to provide lots of criticism without much positive feedback or recognition (unless you're a favorite). It was insanity that drove me to a very bad place psychologically & emotionally. The fallout of that experience, coupled with the emotionally abusive tactics from managers, is something that I'm still recovering from. -Strategy + priorities are constantly shifting. Baseline operating style = people running around frantically throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. It's confusing, tiresome, and unproductive. There isn't a ton of patience from people to do good & accurate work that takes time. People are really burnt out. Recent trend is to leave after 1-2 years if you didn't get in during the hey day. -Misleading and dodgy about RSU valuation during the interview process. -Cost of product is luxury pricing compared to competitors. Gong sales teams were struggling to go upmarket. -A former C-level executive who was brought in mid-2021 created a lot of messes and culture change. This person alienated people at the company. They would cry at all hands and were mean to people when they would travel to visit teams in person in the offices. -DEI is a non-priority, hence why it's practically non-existent.

Gong Response

I appreciate you taking the time to write a thoughtful review. I was happy to read that you worked with warm and intelligent people and that you felt the love customers have for our product. At the same time, it was very hard to read about your frustrations at the company. Our culture is centered on inclusivity and respect – an environment where people feel they belong, they can bring their authentic selves to work every day, and where they can thrive. Employees should never feel bullied or micro-managed. I’m sorry that wasn’t your experience. Please know that we do take DEI very seriously and we’re very transparent about our progress and areas of improvement in our annual report. If you have additional feedback or want to connect, my door is always open. Sandi, CPO
