Pros

The best reason to work at Goodway is the ability to work for home. This is especially good if you live in an area that does not have a lot of larger employers because you can stay ahead in the workforce regardless of your hometown. Schedules are flexible to a certain extent with children’s appointments, continuing education schedules, etc. I also appreciated getting to know the company CEO. The story of his family business is an interesting and impressive one and he seems genuinely interested in Goodway employees; emailing personal notes on birthdays, work anniversaries and holding a virtual lunch with new employees. I felt my salary was fair and benefits were good. The company quarterly bonus structure is also a nice added extra if your position is eligible.

Cons

As you can tell from the other reviews, there are many employees who love their job at Goodway. It is important to note that Goodway puts a lot of focus toward their standing on Glassdoor and other similar sites and actively solicit reviews. At one point we received an email encouraging us to complete employee experience reviews on external sites. The email went on to say that if we did not feel we could give a 4 or 5 star review, we should visit with our supervisor before posting. I feel this action deterred objective reviews from employees that have had less than perfect experiences. I would encourage prospective employees to keep that in mind while reading through additional posts. I unfortunately had a poor experience working at Goodway and would not consider returning if given the opportunity. I endured long hours, poor work-life balance, highly stressful conditions and did not feel that I advanced any job skills needed to meet my future career goals while working there. The training program I went through as a new hire was not relevant to the work I was ultimately assigned, so I felt set up to fail when I was finally assigned work several months later. Supervisor support was severely lacking and I worked alongside several difficult co-workers. Success at Goodway seems to be defined by the team you get assigned to and the friends and contacts you make. Recently, job tiering was announced to offer promotion levels within non-sales roles. Placement in these tiers did not follow the decision tree document they provided and seemed to be based on management opinion. Annual performance reviews ratings were also heavily subjective and did not line up with other scores given within the review process. Requests for feedback are often pacified with vague answers or totally ignored.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a robust review and provide so much feedback. I agree with you on several points: we are probably getting closer to needing an official internal communications person but we have made a lot of progress over the past few months, our supervisors do need more training and we have identified that and have been hard at work on a management training program specifically to help them so they can better support our employees. A couple points I would like to address. The first being the Glassdoor reviews. Yes, we have periodically sent emails out asking for anyone to write a review. The point around reaching out to your supervisor first is that we are a very transparent organization. If someone is unhappy or has ideas to help us improve, we want to hear it! Not to stop you from posting on Glassdoor but so we can take the feedback and make those improvements. Anyone who has worked at Goodway knows how transparent our leaders are with receiving feedback and suggestions. Lastly, it sounds like your experience toward the end of your tenure was not the Goodway norm and I am sorry to hear that. I've said this on other review answers, but I wish I had known about the issue before so I can help rectify it at the time. I am planning to go back to leadership with this feedback so we can fix any issues in the organization. While i'm sorry it doesn't help you now, I appreciate you sharing this feedback.
