Retaliatory Culture - Information Technology Grange Insurance Employee Review

Pros

The President of the company seems to really care. That’s what’s so confusing, how there can be such a difference in the culture the president wants to build and the culture being built around him. So either he doesn’t know or doesn’t care. I have a hard time believing the latter. Strategy is stressed. There is a lot of effort and it seems to be genuine.

Cons

The company just hired an IT leader from a local large financial institution which has a very damaged work place reputation. Micro management, lack of concern for employee’s, no empathy, lack of insurance experience. The Sr. IT level managers are fighting among each other and in the end the non-management IT person is ignored, just considered replaceable. The tension is very evident with the current turn-over in the mid to high teens. Unfortunately, H.R. has never been given the authority to make a difference, they’re mainly there to administer programs and when it’s time to take a hard stand, they’re scurrying out of the room looking for safety.

Thank you for your review and appreciate your candid feedback. It is definitely very concerning to us that you believe people are scared to share feedback and our culture is not supportive of open communication. While we do acknowledge that there has been changes in leadership and technology, we also acknowledge areas of concern and change management that occurs. We very much are committed to our values and of much concern to us that the Grange Insurance culture is not one that promotes communicating openly and doing the right thing. We would love to hear more about how we can change this and our HR Business Partners are a great resource to be able to help further discuss these concerns with. Again, we understand that this is a time of change and we are committed to listening and understanding the problems and concerns and addressing, please give us that opportunity.

Pros

Business causal environment when we have to go into the office

Cons

Constantly adding high paying directors and made up positions but you keep shrinking the people that are responsible for bringing in the business that actually make money. More and more are promoted to these glorified secretarial roles that are not needed but keep reducing the amount of underwriters. You could hire several underwriters for one of those high salary positions.
