Pros

None, no I promise you none. Seriously

Cons

The organization’s IT is extremely immature but attempting to pass themselves off as technical giants. They brought me and about 10 others on for a role they later dissolved within months of creating. Never seen a mature company do that. I was taking over a role someone likely previously left. Those should have been my red flags… There is extremely poor leadership and management. I literally was just on a town hall meeting where our director essentially told staff that Granite doesn’t want you if you don’t like your job or are unhappy working with Granite… there’s the door! Instead of taking ownership and accountability of the feedback Granite is receiving about the poor leadership and management, he responded like a child with a lisp. I’ve been around a long time and NEVER have heard a senior leader say something like this. The company isn’t interested in changing. They just now are starting “mentorship” programs because they are lacking enough quality leadership to grow their organization. They also spun up affinity groups to appear diverse but this is a “good ol boy” organization with no people of color in senior leadership, c suite, etc. If you are black, brown, or just have a little tan you will not have a any type of promotions or advancement. Had to be the Lowest company culture I’ve ever experienced and again it’s likely because of the leadership and morale. I hit the manager roulette wheel and got a micro manager from hell! Any time someone says “I’m not a micro manager…” on your first time meeting them… that’s a Freudian slip… they totally are!(Literally first day) I would not recommend this company to my enemies honestly. If you are young and talented there are plenty of great places to work, this is not one of them. If you are seasoned and talented the same applies to you.

Pros

Great on-site experience for people trying to learn more about project engineering for the construction industry. The company puts a lot of effort on mentorship and networking. For interns, scheduled events were a great way to meet full-time engineers and managers across the work region, and the social culture kept people motivated.

Cons

On-site involvement can range depending on what site you are assigned, but there is always an opportunity to become more involved.

Pros

- company car - well paid

Cons

- management does not communicate at all. They expect you to mind read and meet their expectations perfectly, even while in training like a seasoned veteran . If you don’t, they will fire you with no explanation and a smile on their face. - no formal training program; I was supposed to be trained for 6 months and they cut it 2.5 months and seemed to have held me to the standards of my trainer who had been with the company for over 40 years. I say seemed because again, no communication! - passive aggressive phone calls; management won’t communicate but they do love to call you and make it your fault when they’re having a bad day. - Lack of respect; i was interviewed by 3 of the managers and I could tell which ones chose me/liked me and which ones didn’t. Any recommendations I had to make dispatching smoother fell on deaf ears as I was not taken seriously or treated as a member of the team. It was clear my boss had not chosen me, but was “stuck” with me and was prepping to fire me from the moment training was done. - overtime all day; my day started at 5AM, but I could easily work until 7PM because none of the foreman/superintendents would give me their schedules until 4-5PM if at all despite every day I asked for them between 9-10AM and instead of holding them accountable, my boss told me “that’s just the way it is” which I don’t believe because we were the only region with this problem. Gotta love a boys' club!
