Pros

-Full Gym -Close to T -Intramural sports (although this appears to be eroding) -Decent coworkers -Charitable

-No raises unless promoted -Promotional opportunity very limited therefore earning potential limited, not everyone can be a supervisor despite the propaganda -----For illustration of above CON, below is the standard promotional structure for 80% of the company --------Temp (90 days) --------Level one (or in some departments, just perm employee first, then level 1) --------Level 2 --------Senior (some teams will only allow a max of 2 seniors per team FYI, for most this is as high as you will go unless you want to start over in another department as a level one, and try again) --------Team Lead (obviously only 1 per team) --------Supervisor --------Sr Supervisor --------Manager (must drink the company kool-aid) --------Sr Manager --------Director --------VP (good luck getting to that level) -1950's style micro management system that's stuck in the past -Equally archaic is the company operating software, a system of band-aids would be the way to describe it's functionality -Business attire for non customer facing departments (summer is brutal) -Favoritism is rampant -The bulk of Granite's business relies on copper telephone lines, these will be gone in the next 10 years (calls into question job security). -Must be at work in full business attire in any weather conditions (unless someone begs the CEO) for any department as they consider themselves to be a real utility. Don't worry, they will give you a sticker (literally a sticker) to hand any Police Officer that pulls you over if driving to work during a travel ban. The fact of the matter is, any outages that come in, means Granite repair simply calls the local provider to "open a ticket." This could easily be done from the safety of home, however micro management defines the Granite culture. Even if it may seem necessary to have repair groups in the office, there are also departments like provisioning (for those that don't know, that basically means placing orders) which are also required to come in during serious storms....to place orders.... -Management will watch cameras at the doors of each building each morning to catch anyone who may be salaried and coming in late (since the salaried people don't have to punch in/punch out) -If hourly, you must be in at 8, out at 12, in at 1, out at 5. Any variation on time card (outside a 5 min buffer in the morning) is considered unauthorized overtime -Upper management will walk around looking over your shoulder to make sure you are not sending a text or doing anything on your phone -Upper management retains the mentality that you are replaceable at any level and will replace people that leave with people that have no idea what they are doing and then demand performance -As a result of the previous CON, you often cannot go to anyone above you for help, chances are they have zero clue on the subject manner they are in charge of, upper management is only there to make sure you punch in on time,don't text, an don't screw anything up. -10 min break in the morning, 10 min break in the afternoon..clearly designed for smoking despite the company's pro health stance. -Most positions will not translate to other real world jobs, after too many years you risk being in such a specialized position that you have no translatable skills should you decide to leave. Expect confused looks at any job you interview for, and expect to start over in an entry level position in order to learn a real trade if you do get out. -If you are good at your job, eventually you will find yourself with quadruple the work/responsibilities but with no reflection in pay -If you are good at your job, expect no acknowledgement or benefits unless someone above you quits and you may get a promotion out of it. BUT, if you do a thousand things right and 1 thing wrong, expect to hear about that 1 thing for sure and have that 1 thing come up any time you are considered for a promotion (ex caught texting at your desk which can = written warning) -If you ever do quit, you will find yourself having to make up a story otherwise you will be let go the day you put in your 2 weeks, then you can expect to have former management check in on your LinkedIn profile (if you have one) to see where you went .-Eh, I guess that's enough for the average review reader

This company and specifically the collections department have very little opportunity for growth, despite what may be promised during the hiring process. Honestly, it’s a circus. Non stop tasks are thrown at employees each day. And Goals are constantly increased so analyst can’t reach them. Employees who work hard and consistently perform well often find themselves stuck in the same position with no clear path for advancement. Promotions and opportunities never appear to be based on performance or merit. Management is one of the biggest issues. They have no clue. Favoritism is prevalent, and certain employees seem to receive special treatment, better opportunities, and more support than others. This creates a frustrating and discouraging work environment where many employees feel undervalued and overlooked. Morale suffers when performance and dedication are overlooked in favor of personal relationships and when there is little accountability for management and no transparency regarding career development. Communication from leadership is lacking, and employee concerns are not addressed. Management gets defensive when employees ask questions or disagree with their stupid decisions. Overall, it can be a VERY challenging place to build a longterm career if you are looking for fair treatment, professional growth, and strong leadership. Turnover rate is very high. Also, micro management is at an all time high. Would not even recommend this place to a college grad for entry level experience, if i could Put 0 stars, i would. For the sake of your mental health, stay far away.
