Good people; chaotic organization - Business Analyst Grant Street Group Employee Review

Pros

The owners and many of the company's employees are great people and are great to work with. The pay and benefits are both good and many people end up having a great experience. Good work/life balance.

Cons

The company is growing rapidly and, with that, is becoming more and more disorganized. The day to day experience of a business analyst is increasingly chaotic and office politics, middle management anointing favorites and pushing out experienced employees is happening more and more. Many people are fired quickly within their first few months, often with little or no notice. Middle and upper middle management has been known to lie about both big and small things. The company also has a rah-rah vibe and asks you to drink the cool-aid or risk being seen as not a good cultural fit.

Our President and CEO, Myles Harrington, asked me to pass along the following response to your review: We take your comments seriously. The day following your post we had a meeting with senior managers to explore the issues you raised. Frankly, we don’t know how to address them because we don’t have enough information to identify the people and practices you rightfully criticize. Nor is the feedback we have received in response to frequent requests for critical feedback enlightening in this regard. Recent internal and external employee surveys indicate an extremely high level of employee satisfaction. We encourage you to come forward and give us the benefit of your insights. I give you my personal assurance there will be no adverse consequences, just prompt action to correct the problem.

Pros

My coworkers were great to work with

Cons

- Management here is extremely poor, even compared to companies where I had lower workplace satisfaction - Too much pivoting due to poor resource planning + management due to a poorly crafted longitudinal vision - Disingenuous execution of cultural outlook - Feedback is inconsistent and not supported by clear metrics/expectations

Response from our President: Thanks for complimenting your co-workers. It is a welcome tribute to our culture. For the past 20 years, Grant Street has sustained an organic, compound annual growth rate exceeding 20%. Surely such an extraordinary track record requires competent management. And, to your point, it requires lots of pivoting to sustain it, which has been and will continue to be possible only by developing what you describe as our newer, “extraordinary frontline staff”.
