Pros

Nice office space. Pay was decent. Friendly co-workers who are TRYING to do a good job. Mix of current tech and tech debt is normal and not too bad.

Cons

The CTO. Fear-based culture. Nano-management with zero trust or autonomy. Crazy high workload. "Do more with less" has it's limits and we can't "re-double our efforts" year after year after year. Managing up and laterally to protect your team from unreasonable workload and expectations is part of executive management's job. Being a "Yes man" and pushing all the crap onto the team only leads to cutting corners, a worse product, a worse internal user experience, and an unhappy team. Burnout doesn't begin to cover the expectations and stress imposed on the tech team who haven't already quit or been laid off. I've worked at several fast-paced technology companies. This is not that. It is a toxic environment I was relieved to escape.

Pros

During my time at the company, I had the chance to work with some truly talented and dedicated people. I gained valuable experience and took pride in the work we accomplished together.

Cons

After nearly a decade of commitment, I was laid off during a company-wide reduction due to an industry slowdown. The way it was handled was deeply disappointing. The layoff was announced over a brief Google Meet call where no one was allowed to ask questions or say anything at all. It felt incredibly cold and impersonal. After giving so much of my time, energy, and loyalty, it was devastating to be let go in such a distant and dismissive way. It made me feel like all those years of contribution meant very little in the end.
