Pros

Great colleagues and brilliant minds

Cons

The leadership at Greenhouse leaves much to be desired, making career advancement an exceptionally challenging endeavor. While the company professes a commitment to being people-centric and prioritizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, there have been troubling instances. Complaints about inappropriate client interactions, including disrespectful tones and profanity directed towards me as a person of color, were unfortunately disregarded when brought to light. Despite documenting these issues, I found myself expected to continue working with clients who had demonstrated blatant disrespect. Adding to the challenges, there have been two rounds of layoffs in less than a year, with the second round being kept confidential. This lack of transparency left remaining employees burdened with an increased workload and a larger number of accounts. Notably, we were explicitly instructed not to disclose the layoffs to clients, and no public statement was issued by our CEO. This raises questions about Greenhouse’s claim to be a people-first company and a leader in hiring, considering the repeated layoffs within a short timeframe and the attempt to conceal the most recent round.

Greenhouse Software Response

Thank you for your candid feedback and for taking the time to share your experience. I'm sorry to hear that your time at Greenhouse Software was marked by such challenging and disappointing experiences. I truly value our commitment to being people-centric and prioritizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, and it’s disheartening to hear that we have not lived up to these ideals from your perspective. Instances of disrespectful client interactions, especially those involving inappropriate behavior towards people of color, are completely unacceptable. Your feedback will be helpful in driving progress here. Additionally, our Customer Success department has taken steps to support people of color within the team when we've observed some challenging and potentially racially biased customer interactions. These actions have include bringing in an outside consultancy to recommend strategies, update our processes, and provide managerial tools to combat these issues. We also collaborated with our internal DE&I team on these initiatives. We will continue to take such instances seriously and work hard to address them. Regarding the layoffs, I understand the stress and uncertainty that come with such situations. It’s clear we missed something in our staff communications as this was not intended to be secret nor was it. Moving forward, I will strive to communicate more openly and honestly with all employees, especially during significant organizational changes. Your advice on management is well noted. Prioritizing DEI initiatives, ensuring respectful treatment for all employees, transparent communication, and fostering supportive leadership are all critical areas that we need to focus on. I appreciate your feedback and will continue to work towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment at Greenhouse Software. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

The culture is unmatched and the leadership at Greenhouse truly cares about its employees. It’s refreshing to work with a customer base that enjoys our product. I really believe in the direction of the company and the improvements that we’re making to the product. Everyone I work with is awesome and I’m incredibly happy here.

Cons

I think the comp plan needs to be reevaluated. There’s a lot that is out of your control, and it isn’t setup in such a way that you can blow out your numbers and really overachieve your OTE. I think it was setup for a time when the company was a lot smaller, and the AMs had very large books of business. My only real gripe with Greenhouse is that we are paid commission quarterly instead of monthly, but I enjoy the company so much that I can overlook it.

Pros

Great fringe benefits and good at hiring kind, helpful individuals

Cons

1. Culture changed very significantly during my time there, becoming more cutthroat and less aligned with why I joined in the first place. In a way, I felt pushed out and like I had to leave as a result. 2. Macroeconomic and industry shifts resulted in job instability and cycling layoffs as mentioned in other reviews. 3. Some senior leaders started as entry-level employees, and while that career growth is nice to see, not only does it no longer feel possible at Greenhouse, but that those same employees are increasingly ill-equipped to navigate the challenges that the business is experiencing given their lack of exposure. This was especially clear to me in CS and Product. At the same time, turnover at lower levels was very high during my time there, even with great employees, but never much acknowledgment of it. 4. Product is falling behind Ashby and other competitors.
