Pros

Regular working level people are nice. San Mateo location is nice. Free food is nice. Work is interesting.

Cons

Senior management is all White Male. Senior management has no idea of the skill sets of their staff and what is needed to be successful. Senior management appears to adopt the latest management fads ( eliminating cubes for large tables and noisy open work areas) rather than sensible decision making. Absolutely no interest in the skills and interests of the average employee - they are in it for themselves. Employees are replaceable work units. Recently cut lose from EMC, Greenplum is now known as Pivotal and is using this as an opportunity to settle scores with EMC and EMC originated staff through reorganization and downsizing even if it ends up costing them valuable resources and hurts their ability to deliver projects.

Pros

Agile, nimble like a start-up - but with the large corporate backing/benefits of EMC. Ability to remain mostly independent and drive our own business. New office space is stylish and like a start up we have lots of free food and drinks - including lunch 3 days a week and 2 nights where pizza is delivered and breakfast bagels, doughnuts on Friday.

Cons

Not all employees are located in the newly remodeled space. Additional remodels are in the works, but the company is still split into about 5 different office suites. Teams not a cohesive as they would be if all were co-located.

Pros

- Nice first floor - Wednesday hot lunches and pizza 2x a week - Middle and lower management very competent and tallented - Good work/home balance

Cons

- Toxic culture at all levels from administrative to upper management * They compete with each other instead of working together * Too busy fighting for control instead of working together * Good old boys club mentality - Upper management are mainly white males - Minorities don't really gain a whole lot of respect here - Legacy employees treat the new ones differently - they are not old GP and never will fit in - Seemingly sales and marketing focused with limited attention to engineering * Engineering had 1 administrative assistant for 2 years to cover 5 suites and over 100 people * Small cubes with limited privacy * upgraded look and feel to sales/marketing area but not engineering - note the pictures are not where the bulk of the organization was!
