If you get lucky you can get some good Networking connections to further your musical career
Cons
Job security is non-existing. You can get fired at any time, under any circumstance with no advanced warning from management. I saw at least 15 people getting fired during my 6 month stay. Imagine that! Pay is abysmal and your work schedule can be adjusted to minimum hours without warning. Ex: One week you could be given 4 to 5 days, the next week you could be working only one day. They really put the pressure on the Sales Associate to generate sales even if there are no customers coming into the store. They expect you to learn all these modules and become an expert in selling all kinds of musical gear, insurance, etc for the miserable pay they offer! Ridiculous! You don't really get any kind sales commission. They will drill you into selling PRO-COVERAGE which is additional insurance for the gear customers buy. You get a measly 5 percent on the sale of each which really adds up to nothing on your check. Its a total scam by Guitar Center into making employees believe they're getting something extra. Pretty disgusting! Management doesn't really listen to employees concerns. They're all about the money and that's it! The pay is so bad that if this is your only job and you live in New York, you won't have enough money left to take advantage of the discounts. Bummer!
