Pros

I really enjoyed my time working at HEB in the deli department and it was a fun job. My co workers for the most part were cool, and it was an inclusive atmosphere. There were fun activities we did prior to the store grand opening. Received gift cards around the holidays. Discounts on HEB brand goods.

Cons

I was part time and requested full time multiple times but never got full time. Therefore, never received benefits or PTO and the pay was mediocre. This is an overall great company to work for, but what it really boils down to is the management and the people you work with. The major issues I had was management, both in deli and upper management. I didn't feel like I was being heard or taken care of by my deli managers, but they did a lot better than upper management in taking care of me. There didn't seem to be room for growth as it was very competitive to grow within the company. Upper management suspended me right before Christmas for a reason I could have received a warning for instead. Then, they terminated me after Christmas. In the end I just felt nothing more than just a number instead of a partner they claimed to value. Their "People Matter" logo is a lie. They clearly value profit over people. They then had the audacity to have me tell others what a great place HEB is to work at after terminating me. I do not owe them anything after they decided to terminate me. Therefore, please do yourself a favor, and work anywhere else other than HEB.

Pros

None. Get out while you can.

Cons

Houston location has the worst leaders. They're cheap with raises and cut the good people so the management team can get better bonuses. They make up rules that make no sense when they feel like. There are guys in the yard who have no job titles but somehow are still working there doing nothing all day? The safety leads/radio room/management are a joke. They cover up for the people they're buddies with. Ran into the gate? Destroy thousands of dollars of goods or a trailer? Ran out of gas in the middle of the road driving the mule offsite? Not a problem if you're buddies with management and safety. If you're buddies with management, you get opportunities offered to you even though you may be among the worst and slowest spotters. If you're not buddies with management/safety/radio, you have to watch your back. HEB corporate needs to look into management here.
