Pros
Managers are really fair with your requests and most times will accommodate you with SOME of your needs. HEB hires some really nice and honest people, helps to bring the work environment to a higher level. Also some good benefits, which includes discounts on heb items.
Cons
There is no sick leave at HEB. If you are legitimately sick, HEB will count against you for not showing up. Even if you have a doctors note or a legitimate reason for not showing up, they will doc you no matter what. The system encourages you to go to work if you are sick. At HEB there is a system called steps, each call in adds 2 steps. You have 8 in total before you are eligible for termination. If you want those steps to be gone in a short time, you have to work overtime a LOT. If you don't want to work overtime, just wait 6 months from the day you made those steps! So amazing right. This is a problem among all HEBs. I don't blame management because this is a system wide problem. The system also encourages partners (employees) to trade shifts and put shifts up to bid. This is fine for some people, but for me it is terrible. There is no guarantee that someone will pick your shift up, or that a manager will approve it. You have to live and breathe HEB for the most part. If you are fine with that, power to ya. I for myself cannot stand it. This system doesnt respect a busy college schedule that usually have abrupt events and to study for exams as well. Good luck.
