Pros

This job is very straight forward. It's easy to learn and takes minimal effort. It prepares you for office life. I learned how to set appointments, read call scripts, how to calm clients down, and organizational skills.

Cons

The tax pros are horrible to each other. They are entitled and rude. They bully the first years and create a very hostile work environment. I thought about reporting them several times to HR for their behaviors. I was even ganged up on quite a few times for small errors. It felt like I was in high school. They were all very immature. Not to mention the messy management. The bosses barely know more than I do about things and are very poor at controlling the workers. Then, there are people that have no right to tell you what to do, that walk all over you. I was a teenager when I first started working and they looked down on me, because of it. They would claim I was their favorite receptionist, but then they would treat me like dirt. Overall, not a good experience.

Pros

Flexible availability. Path for promotion is obvious and quantified.

Cons

Bonus/commission it is based on level and sales so is low in states without a state tax form. Hourly wage comes out of bonus. Pressure to sell items that don't add to your commission. They push customer surveys but you can be penalized if someone complains about the company, price, amount of emails etc even though you have no control. Some employees are frustratingly low quality and you will spend time helping or fixing their mistakes time that works against your commission. You are expected to answer phones, make appointments, scan, print, take money, help new comers all while maximizing returns. If you take over someone's client and find a mistake you are expected to work against your commission to file amendments peace of mind claims etc.
