Pros

Used to be one of the best company's to work for in America because they had a family atmosphere, and really cared about their employees and clients.

Cons

CEO has mandated that all employees have, and use the company's debit card "Emerald Card", or be terminated, even in States that this action was prohibited by Starte law. The company needs to be investigated by the Federal Trade Commission as well as the State Commissions as the District General Manager's were forced by the Regional Director's, under the guidance of the Market Vice President's, through the CEO to ensure that all employees in their District's got an "Emerlad Card' or be subject to termination. Also, in May 2015, after the tax season, the company terminated employees who did not have their taxes completed by H&R Block. Married employees, whose spouses were having their taxes done outside of the company, were forced to choose between filing "married filing seperately", or convince their spouses to have their taxes done at H&R Block. Those that did not comply with this CEO's directive, were fired. In some cases these employees had been with the company from 7 to 20 years. Company's Sr. management, CEO, Market Vice Presidents from the East Coast and Central Markets do not possess the higher education levels necessary to be in their positions, and are self serving egotistical, managers. Neither of them have advanced degrees in business for people you would expect to be responsible for over 66% of the company's US operations. Anyone who goes against the grain is ostrcized, and written up to silence them. The company has grown far away from the values that the Founder's, Henry and Richard Bloch, stood for in treating their employees with respect.

Pros

If you get in the right office you can have amazing coworkers and can learn so much. You can gain a ton of experience and knowledge if you are willing to work and collaborate with other preparers. Training is robust and is there for you to utilize and work your way up to higher salary. The potential to earn a full years salary working for half the year once trained up to a higher level and build your book of business.

Cons

Communication is often not the best and in the offseason you are off boarded or get reduced salary and only work a day or two a week
