I wish I could give this company 0 stars. I wish I could give it *negative* stars. As a prospective employee, your first introduction to the company will probably be confusion about what “the company” actually is, where your paychecks will be coming from, and who you are actually working for. “Hudson” is just one piece of a confusing web of corporate entities that generally operate in the area of immigration law but may also be involved in everything from software development to professional staffing. Even after working here for five years, I couldn’t tell you how it all fits together. On its own, a confusing corporate structure wouldn’t be too bad, but that’s only where the problems with Hudson begin. Easily the worst thing about Hudson is its management. The managers/owners of the company are very distant. They make decisions without any input from the rest of the staff and implement massive changes to workflow, company policies, and personnel with little to no warning. Working here, you never know what element of your job will suddenly change dramatically. But when those changes do arrive, you can be sure that you won’t be warned or given any time to adjust. There is also no middle management to speak of. Management communicates through the HR department, but they exercise absolute control over all aspects of the business. From a business standpoint, this seems like a huge waste of everyone’s time because every major decision and problem has to get kicked upstairs to an inscrutable and often difficult to reach managing body. It doesn’t seem possible for a company to be both over-managed and under-managed at the same time, but that’s exactly how it feels. In short, the employees are underpaid, overworked, understaffed, given inadequate training, and expected to deal with the capricious whims of a management apparatus that does not communicate with them and does not care about their wellbeing. It is shameful and it is completely untenable.
