Pros
- Competitive salary and benefits - Job security - Gain sought after consultancy/software skills through training and project work - Job satisfaction; challenging work through which you can make a real positive change to client businesses - Relatively flat management structure - Regular company-wide meetings - Friendly/welcoming and helpful colleagues
Cons
- Work/life balance; Can be a lot of travelling and working away. Typical week would normally be Mon + Fri working from home, then Tues - Thurs working on customer site. This can vary, with some (rare) occasions where you're needed on site Mon-Fri and some weeks where you may be at home all week. For me, the travelling and staying away isn't much of an issue itself, however it has meant that I no longer have the time for my mid-week sports club. Those with young families may also find this aspect difficult. - No influence over bonus; The bonus scheme itself can be very generous, however it is not performance based. Bonus payments are based on "utilisation" i.e. how many days a consultant has been charged out to a customer for that quarter. This is something the consultant themselves has no control over.
