Pros
Hamilton, Miller & Birthisel offers young attorneys the ability to learn from incredibly experienced attorneys. The attorneys at the firm work on a large variety of different cases, meaning young attorneys have the chance to practice more than one type of law. There is also always a trial on the horizon, so attorneys looking to get into trial practice will have the chance to gain lots of trial experience quickly. Last, but definitely not least, the people who work at HMB - from the managing partners down to the administrative and support staff - are all good-natured people who are a pleasure to work with. There is a real family atmosphere at HMB - and the holiday parties are incredible.
Cons
Although not necessarily a con, as with most civil defense firms, billing is a major focal point of your day to day at HMB. Sometimes that leads to long hours, late nights and the occasional weekend at the office. But that is a byproduct of practicing law at a busy firm, and not at all a mandate from management as it is in other South Florida civil defense firms. That said, meeting/exceeding your billable goals for the year is always rewarded.
