Hospitality is inhospitable - Front Desk Agents Hampton Inn by Hilton Employee Review

Pros

The pay is good and if you're unionized you have solid protections. There are often slow times at the desk when you're not under a lot of pressure and you can just get your work down.

Cons

Awful hours, either 7am to 3:30pm or 3pm to 11:30pm, neither or which are conducive to any sort of personal life. Hotels never close, so you will have to work on holidays. Very little support from management of supervisors, more often than not I was left to my own devices. Scheduling can be awful, to the point where my workplace unionized to fight back against hour cuts. There were never enough people scheduled to work at the front desk, meaning we were literally always short staffed. No real options for advancement.
