Pros
It's not too difficult of a job,. There is typically quite a bit of downtime. Some guests are easy to deal with and nice, some, not so much. The employee rate is nice to have when traveling.
Cons
The pay is not overwhelming. Don't expect a 6 figure salary. Some managers are good, others are either idiots and/or micromanagers. Some guests are nice, some are horrible to deal with. Depending on the hotel and the owner, you can either work in a decent hotel or a dump where the owner and managers do the absolute bare minimum to keep the franchise. Typically they are always short staffed or constantly cutting hours so you may have to work multiple rolls, It is hard to get and keep people......esp. decent ones. It's typically the revolving door of employees. Some work hard, some are lazy. It's pretty much like any other lower end job. Oh and Hilton decided to change their Property Management System. It is the absolute worst PMS I have ever worked on. Also, most of their brands now take pets (the hotel has no choice now) so we have turned into a kennel. Hilton is not the same company I started out with. They are steadily going downhill with all of the changes they are making.
