"Don't Work in Central Texas" - Store Manager Harbor Freight Tools Employee Review

Pros

The company has the intentions to be great. People at the store level trying to be "best in class" was inspiring and fun.

Cons

Gave everything I had 7 days a week in a difficult location with limited resources. No support from upper management. It is difficult to work somewhere where the District Manager uses time away from the store (family emergency/scheduled vacation) to do negative store visits. Employees are not allowed to be held accountable for mistakes or LP issues. Unannounced visits with the intention of finding policy violations. Obvious favoritism for Store Managers that did not perform to standard or put in much effort.

Pros

Great benefits, fast paced environment, good teamwork. I liked the hours, you get an education about tools, whether from your coworkers or the customers. And speaking of the customers, they were on the better side for retail. Most are down to earth and easy to converse with.

Cons

Supply chain issues, many parts would never be replenished, despite being featured, advertised, and on display. That would often lead to tensions with customers. Aggressive time constraints on tasks. Sidewalk sales, holidays, and also coincidentally inclement weather days, can be quite busy and therefore stressful. Especially if there's call outs, but if you have a good management team, you'll have good staff that will want to work for them.
