Pros

Co-workers there were some of the nicest and most competent people I've worked with. Really enjoyed working with them. For a contract company, Harmonia pays reasonably well and has good benefits. Telework was offered by USDA, which was good.

Cons

USDA working environment: in a word, miserable. Two people to a single-person cube, and most of the government people are not only incompetent, but arrogant. Unfortunately, Harmonia's management is just barely better, and will not hesitate to throw you under the bus at the first government complaint. I've never, ever had a job in which my skills were more underutilized than at this place. After I was hired, it's like my prior skill-set was ignored. Micromanagement galore by on-site Harmonia management. Harmonia management: incompetent and cowardly. I have worked government contracts before, and, while obviously it's always good to try to keep the client happy, it doesn't mean you have to screw over your employees to do that. It's very apparent that this is Harmonia's only big contract, as they will do anything to keep them happy, which means too bad for their employees if there is ever a problem or complaint, regardless if the government's incompetence and laziness is the true culprit. Harmonia upper-management: thin-skinned and arrogant. It's pretty apparent that all of us on the contract are there for Harmonia's earning a buck, first and foremost. They do a very poor job hiding that. You feel very expendable at this place. Any complaint about the company is generally replied to with a grumpy or angry answer, so most don't even say anything any more. Bottom line: it's a paycheck and a place to work. If you have no expectations over that, you'll be OK. If you want management to support you and look out for you, this place isn't for you.

Harmonia Response

Harmonia and our entire team exists first and foremost to deliver solid IT solutions to our clients, which we do - evidenced by multiple awards and repeat contracts. We do this so that, as most companies on earth, we can generate a profit. This is a fact. But as you have acknowledged, we pay reasonably well and have good benefits, i am puzzled as to what the gripe really is. And as far as the statement that "you are expendable should your profits ever become an issue", fact is, that is true for every company on earth. Not that i would dare to compare ourselves to such great companies, but layoffs are a truism whether it is Apple, or Microsoft or Google or any other small company. i would challenge any company to say otherwise. When profits suffer there are layoffs. I would be lying if that were not true in Harmonia, however that is NOT to say that we don't protect our people when there are downturns. If that is what you are implying you are just wrong, plain and simple. To give you an example of protecting our people, even as I write this, we have had a contract which is wrapping up and the agency has lost its funding and we are working to ensure that every single one of a team of 20 employees is protected on other projects. In KC city by the way, or for that matter in other location for that matter, we have not thus far let a single person go because our profits were suffering. All that said, i will say i am very sorry that you received a grumpy response to a complaint about the company. The company has an open door policy, so i really wish you had brought your issues up to executive management. in fact he monthly lunch that you mention is intended primarily to solicit any issues anybody might have. You have the option to bring it up in that forum or privately if you feel that is necessary. If you had come to me, i would have been more than happy to try understand what the issues were and see what we could do to improve ourselves. IN any case, best of luck with your future endeavors. I hope that your current job allows you to use your previous skillets as well.

Pros

The CEO demonstrates authenticity and a sincere interest in employee growth. Note there was a change in CEO (Saboo is no longer acting CEO)

Cons

*The Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) consistently overrides employee authority and dictates decisions instead of collaborating. *Roles and responsibilities shift without discussion, creating confusion and frustration. *High performers' contributions are minimized or ignored by the CAO. *The CFO promised autonomy at hiring but did not uphold that trust. *Executive leadership communicates poorly and unprofessionally. *Chain of command is unclear, leaving employees caught between two sets of expectations. *Executive leadership does not know how to lead anyone. They were plastered with a nice title and comfy salary. Some communicate/dictate to their teams while others do not communicate at all. Worst team I've ever seen.
