Pros
Clean, well-lighted, temperature controlled environment. Colorful, neatly blocked product aisles (thanks to us grocery clerks). Piped in music 24-7, which stops momentarily for customers who come in the door and wonder, "what did i come here for?" It gives them time to think.
Cons
All employee training is done via a computer program: On Boarding; many employers use this, as it frees up supervisors time, since time is money. Employees must clock-in/out for work and lunch; after working HARD for 4 hrs, must climb two flights of stairs to an un-conditioned break room. Must carry over 100 boxes to shelves, tear open boxes, stock shelves, break down boxes, take flattened boxes back to the crusher; then after 5AM block or face-forward stock for that neat unbroked appearance that Harris Teeter mgmt. likes to see--UGH! Yes you will work up a sweat! All this for $8.50/hr. Flipping burgers pays the same and takes far less work. Young people: go to college/trade school, so you can get a GOOD job! I know, because with a B.A. in Microbiology starting at a hospital, I was earning twice Harris Teeters starting salary, and >4 times that amount after 20 years of working at a hospital.
