Pros

People - I'm amazed at the quality of coworkers I have. My team has a wide variety of perspectives and backgrounds but we enjoy working and playing together. Manager - I've had two managers in my life that I really admire and enjoyed working with. I'm currently working with the second of those two individuals. Makes it great to come to work to know my manager is smart, hardworking, trusts me and encourages a good work/life balance. Company - develops products and services that make a DIFFERENCE. I enjoy talking to anyone who will listen about how HealthCatalyst helps to save lives and improve healthcare. Culture - Management leads by example, encourages constant improvement in our workflact and promotes focus on client outcomes. I get the feeling that upper- and mid-management really care about the employees here.

Cons

Disjointed? - The size and variety of teams can lead to siloing and a feeling that we don't know what the "big picture" is. I came from a really great (but small) company and it is harder here to reach out and get to know and understand what other people are doing. Rushed - Sometimes it seems like a product being developed is delivered without "ease of use" enhancements or having all the features that would really make it shine. This was my experience with my last employer, so it may be a common symptom in software development.

Thank you for sharing your experience here on Glassdoor. I'm encouraged by the positives that you shared, and I appreciated your feedback on areas where we can improve. Regarding cross-functional visibility to the big-picture and to other areas of the company, we'll try to provide more of these kinds of venues. One great venue is our Healthcare Analytics Summit, where there's a product demo available for every product line, and we record many of the sessions, both keynote and breakout sessions, for team members to access afterwards, if you're not able to attend HAS. Also, we're going to try to get better at sharing, in every ATM meeting, a product demo as well as an outcomes improvement vignette, to help every team member have visibility to these things. Regarding "ease of use" of our products, this is also a real area of focus for us moving forward. I was visiting yesterday with Andrew Frueh (our Director of User Experience in the Tech organization) and was really excited to hear that they have proactively organized usability testing for essentially every product line to occur in conjunction with our Healthcare Analytics Summit in two weeks. This will be really helpful, and hopefully something that we make a permanent part of that annual event. Andrew and his team are really gifted and I'm excited to see their influence positively impact the usability of our software. Thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to Health Catalyst. I'm grateful to have you as a colleague!

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
