Pros

Health Catalyst is a mission driven company that is focused on eliminating clinical, operational, and financial waste. It really is focused on customer success and using data to improve how health care is delivered. There isn't a leader in the health care space that I'm aware of who is as smart, compassionate, and fair as Dan Burton. He's amazing. I can't say enough good about Dan. Dan surrounded himself with to minded leaders and that's one of the reasons why the company is so successful. The benefits and company holidays are excellent. There are so many company holidays, that I feel guilty about all of the time off. As a client facing employee, it's rare that I get to take full advantage of all of the company holidays, but I've been known to listen in to company meetings while I'm exercising or traveling. There's flexibility to work where and when it makes sense for personal and professional calendars. The onsite exercise facility, healthy snacks and an active culture make it easier to make healthy life choices.

Cons

Health Catalyst is still has a bit of the old boys culture. It seems that if you're not in with the right crowd, that you're overlooked for growth opportunities. It's harder for women to hold leadership positions, but it's getting better.

Thank you for this insightful feedback, and thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it. Thank you also for more than five years of contributing to the mission of the company, and in such an important role interfacing directly with our clients. I'm glad to hear you feel connected to the mission, as do I, and that you appreciate the benefits, including the holidays. And no problem at all listening to our all-team-member meetings while exercising--what a great idea, and that's why we record these, to provide you with flexibility given your many demands. I appreciate also your feedback about some improvement opportunities regarding your sense of some remaining vestiges of the "old boys culture" as you described it, and your related observation that it's harder for women to hold leadership positions, but your sense that it's getting better. I am certainly strongly committed to the principle of respect for every team member, and strongly desirous for every team member at Health Catalyst to feel they have a bright career path at every level, including importantly at the leadership level. I'm also encouraged to see progress in updated policies that are enabling us to be more consistent in posting positions, in utilizing an interview team when considering candidates, which contributes to better, more informed decisions on promotions and new opportunities. And I believe we are already seeing meaningful and positive results from these positive changes. We'll keep a consistent focus here to ensure we continue to make meaningful progress and keep our promise to enable every team member to have a consistently bright future and career path. I also appreciate your advice regarding keeping team members as our first priority. You have my personal commitment to do this -- I often share with others I meet with, including current and potential investors, that team member engagement is my #1 long-term priority, followed by customers, and then investors, with the rationale that when team members feel cared for and listened to and respected at an extraordinary level, they in turn produce outstanding work and treat our clients in the same way, and then those clients choose to renew and expand with us, which produces strong business performance for investors. As long as I am in this role, this will be the prioritization that I follow. Thank you again for your many years of contributions to our company and its mission. I'm grateful to be your colleague. Best, Dan

Pros

Great Talent & Culture: The people here are highly capable, collaborative, and committed to helping each other succeed. The partnership between onshore and offshore teams works well and is a real strength. There’s a culture of grit and stability that has helped the company navigate multiple major transitions over the years. Mission-Critical Engineering: The work involves complex data infrastructure that requires deep technical expertise. It can be demanding, but seeing these systems run successfully and support real-world operations is consistently rewarding.

Cons

Wage Compression and Retention Risk: Compensation for tenured and high-performing staff has not kept pace with the market for specialized data engineering and support leadership. In practice, tenure can feel undervalued or even penalized. This creates risk around losing institutional knowledge and operational continuity. Stagnant Career Progression: Contrary to stated expectations, strong performance ratings do not consistently translate into meaningful, market-aligned compensation growth. The process of how compensation is benchmarked lacks clarity in practice, obscuring how compensation decisions are made and what is required to advance.
