Pros

*engaging mission *inspiring and principles-based leadership team *strong culture of humility and improvement *terrific coworkers that I enjoy associating with *great work-life balance and career opportunities

Cons

The remote team member experience has been really great for me aside from one experience: a promotion review. It's challenging to bring up the topic of personal promotions or raises in any setting; I think doing so in a remote environment makes it even more challenging due to the fact that intent in messages/emails is more susceptible to being misunderstood than in face-to-face communication. That took place during my promotion review process earlier this year. I worried that I had displayed an attitude of entitlement/greed because I had requested a promotion to a level that I felt I was at, which my immediate managers seemed to agree with but department leadership did not. I respect the decision that was made but feel that I didn't receive a clear answer for what I needed to work on in order to qualify for the level that I was hoping to be promoted to (note - I did receive a promotion, which I'm grateful for, just not the one I had originally proposed). The overall experience was stressful and uncomfortable for everyone involved. To the department leadership team's credit, they have prioritized improving the promotion review process and have made great progress there; I really appreciate them going out of their way to meet with me in person to listen to my feedback.

Thank you for this detailed and specific feedback, and for sharing a good deal about your own recent promotion experience as a remote team member. I found your experience instructive and I agree strongly with your advice and recommendations. We will be encouraging managers to utilize video more pervasively in 1:1 discussions, and are also working to provide more consistent guidance on support for relatively regular travel for remote team members to have face to face interactions with their managers, typically 1-2 times per year where possible. I also appreciate your advice regarding the importance of great communication between managers and team members in sensitive topics like promotions, and we'll work to provide training and support to enable this to more consistently occur. I also agree strongly that we should trust the field manager's recommendations, and this should be leadership's default position -- trust and support the recommendations of the managers closest to the situation. That is absolutely my default position, and we'll reinforce this recommended default position throughout the organization. Thank you again for choosing to join Health Catalyst and contribute to our company's mission and success! Best, Dan

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I appreciate the thoughtful recognition of our collaborative culture and the meaningful work the team does together. How we work together matters just as much as what we do. Our operating principles and cultural attributes remain foundational. To address your concerns about processes and roles, as the organization evolves, we’re prioritizing clarity in these areas to better support teams. There’s real momentum building right now, and the work ahead is meaningful. I’m grateful for you and the role you play here, and I’m excited about what we’re building together.

Pros

Good vision and products have the potential to make an impact.

Cons

No process and a very autonomous culture. No team collaboration. No one knows what other teams are doing. Trying to expand in India, but it feels like we are two different companies—and there are no opportunities to grow. Titles and compensation do not change at all.
